Granada is one of the oldest cities in the western hemisphere and has been inhabited for over 500 years. It is a great base location for touring Nicaragua due to its location and mutlitude of services for the traveler or vacationer.


Reknowned as the oldest city in the Western hemisphere, Granada, Nicaragua has been continually settled or lived in for over 500 years. It boasts some of the oldest colonial structures in the world, some homes are over 400 years old and still in excellent condition! There are many colonial churches and other attractions that will amaze and place you in awe. Granada was a place favored by pirates and other thieves to enter the town and loot it. The thick walled homes still show the concern for protection from the pirates of yesteryear.


Granada is close to San Juan del Sur, the capitol city of Managua and Laguna de Apoyo. The city sits on the shores of Lake Nicaragua, one of the world's largest lakes. In the center of the lake is the island of Ometepe and the volcanoes Concepcion and Maderas. Trips to any of these other destinations is simple from Granada when you use it as a base and there are tour operators, drivers and transportation readily available.
